Social Butterfly

Millie had to go to the vet yesterday.

She’s been doing a lot of licking lately and it’s really getting on my nerves.  Turns out it was nothing serious – just an allergy of some sort.  Since her annual shots are due in a couple of weeks, we did that, too, and her bi-annual heartworm test.

A quick exam and a few shots and we were out the door in less than 30 minutes.  But during that 30 minutes, I felt like I had run a marathon.

The minute I grabbed her collar and leash, she wiggled and jumped and whined.  She was going somewhere with Mommy and she just knew there would be people there to love on her.  I put her in the back seat of the Dogmobile and she made sure she had her head right there between the front seats so she didn’t miss a thing!

The entire time she was there, her tail never stopped wagging and she never stopped trying to visit with everyone there.  She was sniffing and kissing and loving on all of them!  The poor poodle (and her owner) that was coming out of the exam room while I was trying to get her to stand still on the scale.  The golden retriever that was standing next to us as we were checking out.  The lovely lady who was waiting to pick up her dog that had surgery earlier in the day.  The vet – even when he was giving her the shots.  The vet tech that took her temperature.   The other vet tech that held onto her during the exam.  The only time she was still was when they promised her a treat for trying to be a good girl during the exam.

As we were checking out and I was trying to make her stand still so I could sign the credit card receipt, the clerk behind the counter couldn’t stop laughing at Millie’s persistence in greeting everyone.  She even held the receipt for me so I could sign it because Millie just would not sit still.  She said, “I’m a dog mom, too.  I know what it’s like!”

Yea, that obedience training thing . . . it didn’t work so well for Millie.
