It seems like all I do these days is go to the back door to let the dogs in or let the dogs out. It might have something to do with the change in the weather. Luci has always loved the cooler weather – especially if there’s a little rain involved. Blacky doesn’t like the rain, so he stays in the house when it’s wet outside. But for some reason, he’s decided that he wants to go outside and play now that the weather has turned cooler. Maybe it’s the lower humidity. Maybe it’s the cooler temperatures. I just can’t figure it out. I do know, though, that the two of them have been spending a lot more time outside these days.
As a matter of fact, I just had to drag them both inside so that we can go to bed. I think the neighbors might be a little annoyed at me (and the dogs) if they stayed outside any longer. We were outside playing fetch and Blacky was barking at Luci and me. Evidently I wasn’t throwing the tennis balls fast enough for him. Oh, and Luci was stealing the tennis balls from him almost as fast as I could throw them to him. Blacky’s barking got all the other dogs in the neighborhood barking. Not a good thing at 10:30 at night.
I’m really surprised at how active Blacky has been the last week or so. All summer he’s been lounging around inside the house – not spending a whole lot of time outside – but now that it’s cooler he’s hanging outside on the back deck with Luci and wanting to play fetch and go on walks with us. As sad as I am to see the warm summer weather go, I won’t complain about the cool weather if that means that Blacky will go back to being his active silly self.
Now instead of one large bundle of energy . . . I have two. And I couldn’t be happier!!
I enjoyed the two days off from work. The weather was wonderful – except for the rain Thursday morning when I was driving MIL to her doctor’s appointment. Hubby even took off a little early on Thursday afternoon so that we could spend some quality time together. Luci and I went walking every day. Blacky and Luci played fetch in the back yard. I baked a pumpkin pie from scratch. Hubby and I went shopping for candy for Trick or Treat next week. We visited Jr. and his girlfriend and met our new "granddog". It was like a scene from a Norman Rockwell painting.
It was a relaxing and wonderful and joyus mini vacation. I can’t wait for my next mini vacation the week between Christmas and New Years. But it was back to work on Monday and it sure didn’t take long for me to get back in the swing of things . . . and the wonderful weekend seemed like a distant memory right around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon.
The best part of the day was seeing Blacky’s and Luci’s faces when I walked in the door Monday night.
Sigh . . .
Yes, I’ve been a little stressed lately. I’ve been a Grumpy Gus the past few days. But here are the top 10 things that made me smile today
- Seeing Luci and Blacky’s happy faces this morning when the alarm went off.
- Finding a good spot in the parking garage this morning.
- Put the finishing touches on the latest event . . . and all the planning is done three days ahead of schedule!
- Got a good report from my boss about the latest event I planned. No glitches. No problems. "Thanks for all your hard work!"
- On the way home from work tonight I saw a farmer driving his big truck to the grain elevator. He had his little Jack Russell Terrier doggie in the cab with him.
- Listening to my XM radio and singing along at the top of my lungs with the songs on the 70’s channel and the 60’s channel. It’s amazing how many of the words I still remember.
- Taking my nightly walk with Luci and visiting all of her "peeps".
- I’m having my favorite pizza for supper tonight.
- Knowing that I got all the things on my "To Do" list doneby the time I left the office today. I was at the office an extra 45 minute, but that’s okay because . . .
- I’m taking Thursday and Friday off as vacation days!!
Maybe that should be my #1 reason why I’m smiling today . . .
I’ve got a lot of stuff in my head . . . but probably not enough for any of it to be a whole blog on it’s own. Let me share . . .
Last weekend the temperature was in the 80’s and 90’s. We had the AC on. I was wearing shorts and running around barefoot. Then three days later the low temperature was in the high 30’s and there was a threat of frost. Hubby turned on the furnace Wednesday night. There’s a possibility that the high temperature will be in the 80’s tomorrow. Man you gotta love fall in Ohio.
I’m loving this Sunday Day of Rest thing that IT Catholic Mom mentioned a while back. This is my third Sunday in a row of lounging around the house doing nothing. Okay, maybe not totally doing nothing. I’m playing in the yard with Luci. I’m doing laundry – because laundry never stops. I’m cooking dinner. But other than that . . . it’s just watching TV, reading the paper, and working on my cross stitch. It’s been a wonderful thing especially since the job is a little hectic.
My little sister and my baby brother went to Indianapolis to see Van Halen. Yes, I’m jealous and I wish I could have talked Hubby into going to the concert.
For some strange reason, Luci and Blacky have been running in and out of the house all day. I can’t get anything done because they are always scratching at the back door . . . either to be let in or to be let out.
I survived my 5 events in three weeks at work. The last event took place over the weekend. I didn’t have to go, I just did all the planning and spent the weekend worrying that I’d forgotten some important detail. Luckily everything went just great. Whew. What a big relief. No the biggest thing on the horizon is the Holiday Party. It’s less than two months away.
That’s about it for now . . .
I love my new job. I’ve been there a little over 4 months and it’s been a total whirlwind the entire time. In the last couple of weeks, I’ve had 5 (FIVE!!) events to plan and execute. Two events last week . . . three events this week. One event has something happening every day. I confess that I was very content with the routine at the old job. It was safe. It was predictible. There is nothing (nothing!) routine about this new job. Every time I think I’ve got a routine down, everything changes.
Add to that working on Hubby’s new business (Don’s Fishing Rod Repair), taking care of the doggies, doing the Domestic Goddess stuff (groceries, laundry, cleaning the house) and keeping an eye on my MIL and I’m one busy little lady. Yes, life is quietly going back to boringly normal – and I’m very happy about that – but it’s also incredibly hectic. I have been able to take Luci for a walk every night and play fetch with her and Blacky at least twice a day . . . but that’s about it. Not much cross stitching going on these days. Not much reading for fun. Some TV watching but not nearly as much as I’d like. But most of all, not much blog time. Not much time to read all the blogs that I love . . . not much time to write my own blog.
But I think that’s going to change. I read Catholic Mom’s website last week about keeping Sunday as a day of rest and thought that was a cool idea. So I tried it for myself last weekend. It was wonderful. Wonderful. I slept in as late as the doggies would let me. Okay, it was Luci that finally got me up at 8 a.m. for her morning potty trip and breakfast. I read the paper. Lounged around the house and did a lot of nothing in particular. I did do some laundry but that was all the housework that I did. Watched a movie with Hubby and fixed dinner. It was a lovely, relaxing day. After the pace that I’ve been running the last few months, it was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday. And I made a vow that I’m going to try my best to continue the practice. Maybe I’ll be able to catch up on my reading and my cross-stitching . . . that is if Luci will let me. She seems to think that Mommy’s Day of Rest includes an evening walk. To be honest, though, that walk is the highlight of my day . . .
Oh and I hope to be able to spend more time blogging . . .
