With the holidays and my vacation, this is the first time in a month that I’ve had a 5 day work week. And what a week it’s been . . . .
Had to deal with a bit of drama concerning my Dad’s health. Right now I don’t think it’s anything serious but when your dad is 77 years old something "not serious" can turn to "very serious" before you know what hit you.
Speaking of parental health issues . . . had to do a little arm twisting with my MIL to get her to see her family doc for a follow-up to the trip to the ER last week. Her neck is still sore – not as sore as before – and I think there is something that should/could be done on a maintenance basis to help with the pain and to get the disk from irritating that nerve. MIL is convinced that she "just has to live with" the pain and that there isn’t anything that can be done. I told her that we’ll never know if we don’t ask.
Jr. told me the other day that his sister (my stepdaughter) called him and was acting like the big knockdown drag-out fight they had in November never happened. The one where she told him to never call her again and as far as she’s concerned she no longer has a brother. Since she called him and is acting like nothing happened, we’re all holding our breath, waiting to see what she’s up to this time. We go through this stuff with her on a pretty regular basis so we all know the routine. She gets her feelings hurt over something, she has a major blow up with whoever hurt her feelings and stops talking to all of us. Things can be quiet for a month or a year. Just depends on how mad she is and how badly she needs one of us to do something for her. Usually the "do something for her" involves money.
They are remodeling the office immediately one floor above me. Lots of construction noise. Hammering. Drilling. Obnoxious stuff that keeps me from even hearing the phone ring. Thankfully the boss had a heart-to-heart talk with the building manager and the noise stopped. Immediately. Wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that one.
I’m gathering info for the year end and 4th quarter tax reports that I have to file. Withholding reports, W2 forms, 1099 forms, bank statements. My desk looks like a file cabinet exploded. Even though this is the 6th time I’ve gone through this process, I’m still nervous. Since I do all the data entry into the accounting system and prepare all the financial reports the buck stops here if the IRS or some other tax agency gets the wrong info. I tend to get a little anal about the forms and will review them three or four times before I give them to the accountant. Did I mention that I hate math?
Ever see the Far Side cartoon where the kid is asking the teacher if he can be excused from class because his brain is full? That’s how I feel today. I need to go home and empty my brain.
Thank Goodness It’s Friday . . . .
